The evolution of the Ham species(How an Ham can evolve after he has realized that it's working!!)
Licensed since 1991, I am a geologist and I like very much DXing but always /M (exclusively DRIVING!!) since year 2000 At the very beginning my shack was at home and this below was my tower with the antennas:
After some years, my job brought me to spend long time driving and of course my way of doing radio evolved. This was my first car prepared with an HF rig (Yaesu FT100+ATAS100 and Icom IC2410H+Diamond VHF-UHF)
The second one was still a Fiat Stilo but more equipped: (2 Yaesu FT100+2 ATAS100, 1 Kenwood TMD700+Diamond VHF-UHF, 1 Icom IC2410H+Sirio VHF-UHF). Set up to listen contemporary more than a frequency.
AndThis below was the internal set-up:
Two Yaesu FT100 + two ATAS100 together with two Kenwood TMD700 and a CW vertical key
Remotizing all the RTX couse to me to find a clever solution to occupy space as less as possible without compromising the car loading capacity
I tried to look after all aspects: efficiency but also style
After this car I shifted from Fiat to Ford assembling my mobile station into a Ford Focus 1600 Diesel. And this has been the result:
The "cockpit" has a special set-up because I have had to manage up to 6 Rtx(2 Yaesu FT100, 3 Kenwood TMD700, 1 Icom IC2500) in terms of safety in driving and efficiency in trasmitting.
This is the back trunk that nevertheless remains still available to carry laggages or shopping stuff.
And what about to get a look at the bottom of the roof? I had hard time to fix all antennas!!
With this car I have been at Friedrichshafen Ham Messe in Germany. Below from left to right: IK5YOJ Joe, IK5ZUN Mark, IK1COA Alfred
In winter was working very well also
And here below my new car is still a Ford Focus mod. Titanium. Here I have made some other changes: Rtx HF section mobile HF Rtx: N°1 Yaesu FT100 Rtx VHF-UHF-SHF section mobile VHF-UHF Rtx: N°1 Kenwood TMD700 mobile VHF-UHF Rtx: N°1 Kenwood TMD710 Antennas HF section mobile ANTENNAS: HF N°1 Yeasu ATAS100 (modified) AntennasVHF-UHF-SHF section mobile ANTENNAS: VHF-UHF N°1 Diamond 2x5/8 in VHF and 4x5/8 in UHF mobile ANTENNA: UHF-SHF N°2 Diamond 2x5/8 in UHF and 5x5/8 in SHF
and finally this it's me (on air from IM0LDV in cw 30m)
My activity now is done exclusively from /M either SSB or CW or BPSK31 and APRS, from 40m to 70cm bands. Also active in Echolink at n°331251 (on 70cm) or at n°456490 (on 23cm) Member of the DXpedition IA5/IQ5LV from Pianosa Island (Arcipelago Toscano EU-028).
