Active on HF-VHF-UHF.

Main interest on VHF Weak signal qso and Contesting in general !

I started my activity since I was really young, cause my father is an OM too (IK0BAL), I remember all the past weekends side by side to my father in the radio shack, when I was only a child.

At the beginning it was only a sporadic hobby for me and my curiosity grew day by day, and when I was 10 years old I started to come to ARI Roma Club and there I met other enthusiastic friends that taught me a lot about hamradio.

I want to remember the one that I consider my mentor after my father, Ugo Cartia I0CUT (now sk).

Every time we met Ugo was always asking me, like a quiz, about DXCC countries prefixes (hi); Ugo was an avid dxer on HF and 6m, contester on VHF in the 80's and the man behind the activations from Vatican City and Sovereign Order of Malta.

By the way, I started my activity like ham operator in 1998 like IW0GPN till 2009, when I moved in my new qth and I changed my callsign in IV3KKW (for a little while I owned also IV3AKZ call).

With my new callsign I starte also my HF activity, and now I'm active from 1,8 MHz to 432 MHz and I hope soon also on 1296 MHz.

My new QTH is not the best for VHF & Up due to high Alps mountains just behind my house (around 1km from my roof I have my north side closed by several mountains higher than 1200m)

During these years I used several callsigns, and made some radio experience of every kind:

  • DX-Peditions : I was member of HV5PUL in 1998-1999, HV0A-HV4NAC-HV50VR till 2008, 1A0KM till 2008, II0W from rare grid square JN51 on 50-144 MHz in 2003 and 2004.
  • VHF Contesting : Single Op. like IW0GPN IK0BAL and Multi Op. like IQ0RM IQ0OS/P IQ0TE/P IQ3AZ IQ5TT IK5ZWU/6 I5PVA/6 IK0ISD/P IK0DDP/P IW3INQ/P S5/IW3INQ and many others...
  • Moonbounce : I have experienced EME on 144 MHz from IZ0FWE (tnx Carlo) like IV3KKW/0 and also a guest at IK5VLS EME 23cm station during an EME CW contest
  • IOTA : IQ3AZ/P on IOTA EU-130 - IIA GO-012
  • HF Contesting : Single Op. like IW0GPN IK0BAL and Multi Op. like IK0PEA IQ5AE IQ5TT and IO5O
  • Special Call : II3PAN for 30th Anniversary of MB-339 PAN

During the previous solar cycle (23rd) I was mainly active on 50 MHz and I reached 177 countries worked with only an IC-706MKII (100 watt) and a 5el. M2 Enterprise on my roof.

I was also active on 144 MHz with an FT-736R (100 Watt) and a 16el. I0JXX making my experience on MS-SSB ESp and TR. I took part also in VHF Contest from home qth, but in the main events I used to be part of some contest stations on top of a mountain, with good take off.

On November 20th 2000 I made my first qso on 2m Aurora in Rome with DF2ZC and DK5DQ, it was a very rare event in Rome, the previous time was on July 1991. (Planetary index K=9)

On October 2008 I was nominated ARI Coordinator for 144-432 MHz bands and member of ARI VHF & Up Committee.
At the beginning of 2012 I became the ARI VHF & Up Manager.
I took part at the IARU Reg. 1 C5 Interim Meeting in Wien on 2010 and 2012
I took part at IARU Reg.1 General Meeting in Varna-Bulgaria on Sept. 2014, representing ARI on C5 Committee.

Proud to be member of IO5O TenFifty Contest Group
