Click for more detail... The Ak-Sar-Ben Amateur Radio Club of Omaha is a large active club . Our meetings are held on the second Friday of each month. We meet at the Red Cross at 81st and Spring St in Omaha. Everyone is invited to attend. You can visit our web site at http://www.aksarbenarc.org where you can learn more about us. The club also operates the 146.940 repeater. The word Ak-Sar-Ben holds no special meaning, it is simply "Nebraska" spelled backwards. In the 1800's a group of businessmen formed a group called the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben which is still in existance today. The group operated a very popular race track until the 1990. They host a rodeo, 4-H expositions and a large celebration called River City Round Up. They also award scholarships and aid in other educational programs. Ak-Sar-Ben (pronounced ak-ZAR-ben) is a popular name in the area for businesses as well as the largest amateur radio club in the area.
