Greetings from K0YEQ! Please scroll down the page to see more photos.

Sunset from Mt. Bonnell, Austin Texas. I took this photo while visiting my daughter in March 2009. I used it for my QSL card, it made an interesting photo with all the towers on the horizon. Being no photographer I took about a dozen shots to get this one.

The picture on the right is from breakfast at Mi Madres in Austin with my daughter and her UT friends. Lauren is in blue second from the right. Her mother would not let the cameraman get her in the picture. Taken the morning of the Texas vs Texas Tech football game, Sept 19, 2009.

QTH Info

That's me, K0YEQ, in the middle of the top picture. N0MJS, Cort, is to my right and N0TGN, Bill, is to my left. They are two very fine gentlemen and hams. We were working on the guy wires for the tower and repeater installation at my QTH. We put up the tower and two repeater antennas that day. One repeater is a commercial UHF unit for my families' farming operation. The second repeater is K0USY, which is Cort's, he has been building it during the past year or so. It's frequency information is 444.825 +offset with a tone of 88.5. It is linked via Echolink to repeaters in Pittsburg, KS and Hays, KS. My QTH is on high ground located between Lawrence and Topeka, KS. The repeater will give coverage to both cities, it does favor Topeka to the west. Cort and I are working on improving that situation by installing a new antenna.

Details for the repeater installation and Cort's construction history can be found at the following website: http://web.mac.com/n0mjs/K0USY/Home.html

The picture on the left below, taken May 9th 2009, shows us changing out the Telewave F10 and replacing it with the new Telewave D6-9. Rex, W0FOG, is at the top lending his very experienced help. I'm down below holding the base of the new antenna. The second picture below to the right is one of the F10 right after it was installed in October 2008. The new Telewave will help our repeater better cover the Lawrence area. It has been a learning experience for Cort and I. John Hilmer at Telewave has been a great help to us. We would recommend Telewave as a great resource for ham antennas and equipment. The pretty blue antenna just did not have the coverage pattern we were after. You learn as you go.

After being a listener for many years I finally couldn't resist jumping into the "Ham" world. My grandmother Gantz got me started listening to shortwave when I was in grade school. She kept a radio until she passed at the spry age of 93. Since I have both the kids out of the house and doing their own thing I have some time to spend on the hobby. I am enjoying it very much as I am still learning something new everyday. The latest is APRS, I use a Kenwood 710 teamed with a G5 AvMAp unit. It makes taking road trips much more interesting. It has been a good setup so far.

Currently on HF I am using a Kenwood TS-2000 and a G5RV-M Van Gorden antenna. I have several amps that I use. I spend most of my time on 75M and 160M.

I hope to "see you on the radio".

Planting corn in the Kaw valley west of Perry, Kansas. I stopped by when my brother was planting a field just south of Hwy 24.

He was using a Cat track tractor pulling 24 rows, 60 feet of swath. April 24, 2009. If you look closely you will see the GPS antenna on the top of the cab. It is part of the steering system that he uses to make those straight rows. Farming sure has changed since I left the farm.

A few harvest pictures taken September 29, 2009 in the same field shown above, five months later. The corn was yielding 200 bushels plus. It looks like the brothers will have a good harvest. Two combines and lots of trucks to hold it all.

The view from my front porch, an early morning rainbow in Kansas.
