Former Callsigns: KA1DNR (1979-1995), KC2YWZ (2010), AE2CS (2010-2011)
Radio: TS-590, FT-857D
Amp: Ameritron AL-572
K1DNR Mobile Setup:I use an MFJ-1661 with a 1.5m stainless steel whip - and 10cm (4") spring. I use an FT-857D barefoot, and Vibroplex, K8RA, or NYE Viking paddles bungee corded to the ashtray. I really enjoy operating mobile from my Ford F150 truck. I highly recommend replacing the MFJ stock telescoping whip with a stainless steel whip and spring. You'll also want a shunt coil where you feed the coax - 3-5 turns of #12 copper wire perhaps 2.5cm in diameter. You'll need to find the right number of turns and spacing for your installation. Use a good common mode choke where you feed it.
160m, 80m and 30m: Ground mounted vertical about 13m tall, top loaded and also tuned at the base with homebrew remotely switched matching networks.
40m: 1/4 wavelength vertical, elevated radials
All other HF bands- 20m long dipole up 13m high fed with homebrew ladder-snap ladder line. This antenna is matched to 50 Ohm coax on 20m and 12m, and tuned on other bands.
Other things I do: I help businesses manage technology. We do everything from working with clients on business strategy, and data mining to supporting, deploying and migrating infrastructure. My company is Centerbrook Technology LLC. I started the company in 2011 when we moved here from New York City.
My wife and I love dogs and are involved with dog rescue organizations. We have 5 dogs of our own. Visit my cousin's organization Running For Rescues- a group that provide funds to anyone involved is rescuing a dog. Funds are available for food, medical bills, etc.
I enjoy playing the saxophone, doing occasional gigs with old friends, and playing the piano along with my radio hobby. I studied with jazz saxophonist Jackie McLean from age 16 through college. Some samples of my music can be found here: www.socci.com/blog/my-music. Prior to my IT career, I played with bands all over the world. I now play with old friends, and with bands that interest me - like Michael Palin's Other Orchestra at Black Eyed Sally's in Hartford, CT
I enjoy CW most of all, but also other modes quite often. I work all bands from 160 to 10m, but am very partial to low band dxing when conditions allow. I also enjoy moderately QRQ CW ( 35-40 wpm) from my mobile when conditions allow.
Current projects include a single band tube CW transmitter using a 6L6, a 6m Yagi, restoration of a Cushcraft R7, and a 2m wide prime focus parabolic dish for Wi-Fi and mobile data.
Sono interessato a imparare l'italiano. Mi può aiutare a imparare l'inglese. Io sono anche un principiante.
