Greetings from Salem, NH, Running a Yaesu FT 920 & Ameritron AL-811H Amplifier ( 500 watts ) to a Carolina Windom up 45 Feet. Also, use a James Millen Xmatch to tune the antenna system. The Grounding System consists of four 10 ft. Ground rods buried deep into the earth so that the tops of the rods are below the frost line. The Ground rods are spaced one meter apart & connected in a Series fashion. They are fed into the Shack with a very large copper conductor. A Keyboard ( K1EL kit ) is used to do most of the Brass Pounding. I do have a J-38 for back-up usage. Regarding Brass Pounding, back in 1961 to 65 served as a Radioman on a WW 2 Diesel Submarine (USS Tigrone SS-419) out of Groton, CT. The Tigrone was a Snorkel boat with special antennas so that we could RX & TX while submerged at 60 feet. Had a lot of fb fun Pounding Brass fer Uncle Sam during the Cold War days..... ....See below for picture of USS Tigrone The age is 65 and have had this call since July of 59. As a Novice it was KN1LKP. Then changed to K1LKP when I upgraded to General Class in 1960. God Bless to You & Yours.......... 73 Carmen The Grandchildren recently had a celebration party for my 50 yrs of Ham Radio. "CONGRATULATIONS PAPA"
