I have Been involved with radios since I was in elementry school (1980s). Started off on 11 meters I then got into monitoring police scanners. After leaving highschool I joined the United States Marine Corps(1990s). I was trained in Jungle warfare, Mountain Warfare ect(GRUNT). My platoon commander had seen me operating one of my modified CB radios out of my truck on base and watched me talk to CB'rs around the world. At that point he made me his platoon radio man. As a United States Marine I had to learn how to use the military radios. After training over and over again with the radios, lugging them in my ruc sack threw the unforgivin jungles of south east Asia on operations, I got an opertunity to train my junior Marines on how to operate radio during down time and to do it tactfully. I then went from being the platoon radio man to Company radio man then was the Battalion Commanders Radio man. At one point I was the main artery for radio operations from the Battalion Commander out to all field operators out on patrols in the jungle, to the eyes in the sky and to ship commanders at sea. All though my radio skill was a very small part in my Marine Corps career, there were many more skills I had learned and was much better at doing. After leaveing the Marines and talking on the dead 11 meter band I finaly got my ticket and have been a ham since 2004. Currently monitoring Commercial, Military airbands, Public safety FRS/GMRS Marine Coastgaurd and public saftey. I have ears everywhere 24/7
