W. Mike Wood, K1MW (Ex-WN4UXU, WA4UXU, N4XU, NT4O) I was first licensed in June 1964 as WN4UXU at age 14. That's my 1964 station in the photo above. I upgaded to General class license ,WA4UXU, one year later. That was back when you had to pass both the 13WPM code test and written test before an FCC examiner at an FCC office. The nearest FCC office was about 150 miles away in Norfolk, VA. I passed the Extra Class written and 20 WPM code exams in 1968 , again at the FCC office in Nofolk , VA. I have been an ARRL Member since Oct 1, 1964 and became an ARRL Life Member March 26, 1977. I enjoy many aspects of the Amateur Radio hobby but my main areas of interest are: DXing, Contesting, Antenna Design and Construction and gadget design. Currently a member of RARS (Raleigh Amateur Radio Society) and the PVRC Contest Club - NC East Division
