International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend
August 15-16, 2015
Newburyport Harbor Light / Plum Island
The Newburyport Electronics and Radio Society (K1YRD) is pleased to continue its participation in the International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend to promote awareness of the role of lighthouses, radio, and the long maritime history of Newburyport.
The Newburyport Harbor Light is located at the northern end of Plum Island and is maintained by the Friends of Plum Island Light, Inc., who have graciously provided us the opportunity to participate in this historic event.
K1RID, KC1AYV, KC1BDD, KC1CMF and guests 'activated' the harbor light during the event on Saturday 8/15, and Sunday 8/16. The team made over 200 contacts in the two day event. Thanks to everyone for participating in the event.
More information about our club, including photographs from last year's event, may be found at www.k1yrd.org. QSL cards will be handled direct via our club (K1YRD) at 9 South Pond St., Newburyport, MA 01950.
Donations to support the maintenance of the Newburyport Harbor Light may be sent to the Friends of Plum Island Light, Inc. a non-profit organization, at P.O. Box 381, Newburyport, MA 01950. Phone: 978-973-6935. Email email@example.com
A busy day on Saturday, August 15, 2015, to load the Millennium Falcon, set up the site, and get on the air. We made 73 contacts and dodged a bit of rough weather. Station was QRT for obvious reasons, but was back up for the greyline and some great DX! The weather on Sunday was much improved and the team was very successful on 20m throughout the morning and afternoon.
Loading up the Millennium Falcon and heading home!
Thanks for all the QSOs - 73!
