I was first licensed as a novice as WN3KPP in 1967 at the age of 15 and upgraded to general about 6 months later with the call WA3KPP. I have always had an interest in operating CW. I spent many years operating VHF/UHF as part of a contesting group with the call of K3MTK. We operated from a high location in the Pocono mountains and ran many June VHF contests from there.
I took a break from the hobby for a few years and when I came back, I got into serious HF contesting. I upgraded to Extra and got my current vanity call of K3ZV. I joined the Frankford Radio Club and have operated from some of the clubs biggest stations (N3AD, K3NM, N2RM, K2AX). I still enjoy CW much more than phone contesting.
I am planning to relocate to a gated community in Florida when I retire so my radio activity will be restricted. I plan to still do receiving on WSPR on several HF bands. Currently using a Softrock Lite II SDR receiver built for 30 meters to receive WSPR. This works very well with a G5RV antenna. Using WSPR 4.0 software in IQ mode that I compiled on a Xubuntu 14.04 Linux operating system.
