Initially licensed at age 15 as KN3CAM in 1958 in Kittanning, PA (near Pittsburgh), I then held W4UPV for about 40 years while living and working in the Washington, DC area. Upon retirement in 2006 and relocating to beautiful Florida, I upgraded to Extra class and put together a modest ham station. I then got the vanity call, K4DES. My HF station currently consists of an FT-2000, a companion QUADRA solid state amplifier, and a Force 12 C-4XL yagi at 101 feet. I also have antique Collins KWM-2 and 30L-1, and an E.F. Johnson Viking II and Collins 75A-4 for nostalgic purposes. Rounding out the HF equipment is a Henry 2K-D when a little extra power is needed.
I enjoy contesting, DXing, AMing as well as leisurely QSOs. Having traveled extensively internationally, I really enjoy talking to hams all around the world, especially those places I've visited during my travels.
Listen for me in the contests, DX pileups, and vintage AM and SSB nets
Best regards,
Dave, K4DES
