I was first licensed in Feb. 1957 at age 14 as a novice with the call KN4MZT. A year later I upgraded to K4MZT. After graduating from Florida State University in 1964, I entered the US NAVY. I attended OCS in Newport RI and received my commission in Nov 1964. I remained somewhat active in ham radio while in the Navy operating KA2NY in Yokusuka, Japan and I operated the station on "Monkey Mt" in DaNang on one occasion. After returning from SE Asia I obtained the call W6IAU and operated a little from the San Diego Area. When I completed my active duty I returned to the 4 call area and received my present call of K4DZR in the early seventies. I worked for the Navy for a couple of more years. I spent the next 25 years as a "road warrior" mostly as a factory rep. in the truck and equipment industry. During that time I often operated mobile - starting out mobile with a Heath HW-100. I finished out my work career as a Technology Ed. High School Teacher (12 years). I enjoy dxing, ragchewing and do some contesting also. I operate CW as well as RTTY, PSK & SSB. My current station equipment:Icom 7000, Elecraft K3 & K2, Icom 706mkIIg, Ameritron AlS-600W/QSK Master & 3 Element Cubex Quad (10,15 & 20).

Ham radio has been a very rewarding and fun hobby and and has created many new friendships. I look forward to more enjoyment from the hobby now that I am retired. I also enjoy all types of hunting and fishing.

My XYL, Dolores became a SK late in 2009 after 40 years of marriage. She enjoyed my "hamming" for all those many years and she will be dearly missed.

'73, Jerry
