I was first licensed in 1959 as KN9TQG as a Novice. Then came a succession of calls as I moved and also upgraded: K9TQG, K4DQK, N4CHD, and now K4LF. Ham activities include ARES member, public service event communications (marathons, triathalons, etc.), active member of Oak Ridge Amateur Radio Club, Field Day op, and 6m enthusiast (off and on). I started on six in the late 60s with a homebrew 6m superregen receiver and then in the early 70s with a Lafayette HA-750 AM rig.

I currently use an oldie-but-goodie IC-551D running 60-80 watts output from solar-powered batteries into an Armstrong rotatable dipole at 17 feet high (pictured above). This is the same setup that I bring to our club Field Day site and have operated for many, many years. The 6m band is definitely the "magic band!"

73, Charlie
