My interest in Ham Radio was regenerated during late summer of 2011. It was something I'd wanted to do as a kid but had no direction or funds. I began to study for the Technician Class and a few weeks later successfully tested at the Irving, TX club site. I immediately started to prepare for the General Class and at the end of October passed the test at the DCARA club site in Denton, TX. Once I got my General I began having fun on HF but soon realized I was missing out on valuable band space and needed the Amateur Extra Class. I slowly ramped up my preparation and earned my Extra Class rating March 17, 2012.
My modest shack
After passing the Technician Class I bought a Yaesu FT-60 HT for 2m and 70cm as my first radio. Soon after earning the General ticket I acquired an ICOM IC-756 Pro II, Icom PS-125, SP-23 external speaker and a SM-20 desk mic to work HF. It's run into an Ameritron AL-811H amplifier and LDG AT-1000ProII with the MFJ-868 wattmeter for tuning the amp. Presently the antenna is a KIO Technologies 5-Band Hex Beam at 40 ft for 20m to 10m. Alsoa G5RV 103' for 10-80m at 38ft as an inverted V.
