I am located in the southern tip of Texas in a four-county area known as the Rio Grande Valley. My QTH is about five miles north of the Rio Grande, the boundary between the USA and Mexico, and about 50 miles or so from the Gulf of Mexico (Port Isabel and South Padre Island), which, some years, is "Hurricane Central".. I got into ham radio kind of through the "back door" when I was in high school. That story is probably of interest to no one but me, so I will spare the details here; but, I want to thank W5SBN, W5DYB and W5KPX (SK) for all their help in gettng me started. I received my Novice license (WN5WSF) in 1968, when I was a high school sophomore, and my General ticket (WA5WSF) in 1970, after my parents were kind enough to take me to Ft. Sam Houston, in San Antonio, to take the FCC exam. That was a family outing I will never forget. I received my Advanced ticket in 1972 while I was in college, and my Extra ticket in 1977, while I was in law school. As soon as I received my Extra ticket, I applied for a 1x2 call and received K5JX. My main interests are chasing DX and contesting. My favorite mode is CW. I am very interested in becoming a QSL manager for anyone who's willing to give me a chance. I was very active from the late 1970s through the early to mid 1980s and then became inactive for about 20 years or so. I missed out on a lot of good DX during that time, so I'm now trying to make up for lost time in terms of completing 5BDXCC, 5BWAS and 5BWAZ. Unfortunately, this thing called a JOB keeps getting in the way, although my XYL (KC5VIA) is very tolerant (and even supportive) of my hamming activity.
