Son of Kenneth N (prior owner K6CKT SK 3/18/71) and Jean B Harding born Keesler AFB, MS when my father was stationed there as a technical instructor. Being an Air Force brat, I grew up in California, Bermuda, Georgia, and California again after my father retired from the Air Force, due to heart problems, in 1963. I attended Marylin Ave Elementary for 5th & 6th grades, Junction Ave for 7th & 8th grade and Granada High for 9th - 12th grade, class of 1971. At Granada I met my XYL to be, Katie Logsdon. After High School, I enlisted in the Air Force and after basic training at Lackland AFB, TX was assigned to technical training at Keesler AFB! I was there from February through August 1972 and then was assigned to the 33d Comm Sq March AFB. While on route to my 1st PCS I married Katie on Sept 10, 1972 and we set up housekeeping in Sunnymead CA. After 3 years at March AFB, I (in)voluntarily crosstrained into the Satellite Ground Systems Equipment Operator/Technician AFSC (308x0 - DMSP) and reassigned to Det 1, 4000 AAG, near Fairchild AFB, WA. Two years of working in various positions at the detatchment got me a "reward" by getting requested by the engineering department at the headquarters of the group, at Offutt AFB, NE. So, we packed up and headed east. We couldn't get base housing when we first got to Offutt, so we bought an 80 year old farmhouse up in the Benson Addition, between 66th & 67th on Evans Street. It was while living there that I met Dave, WA0HWD, who convinced me to get into ham radio and was my Elmer, even giving me a Galaxy III transceiver. Dave was responsible for helping me get my Novice ticket, KA0JHJ. I even made a few contacts although I never sent nor received any QSL cards. Various children were born during my 9 years in the AF (3 to be exact) and I got out in 1981 and started working for different aerospace companies in Southern California for about 10 years, then moved back to Livermore in 1991 and have been living there ever since. After being bugged about it by my brother in law Tim KA6AUD, I got my tech license and then when the Vanity License program opened up for family members of deceased hams I applied for and got K6CKT in honor of my father. I work at LLNL in computers, and took and passed the exam to upgrade to Extra Class at Pacificon 2006, so K6CKT is once again an Extra Class license.
