I got  my first license in April, 1954 as KN6ERF.  I made regular trips to the FCC office in San Francisco to pass the Technician, General, Advanced and then Extra over a period of ten years.  I kept the K6ERF call until the mid seventies when Extra Class amateurs were allowed to select a 1x2 call from a long list (that was a one time thing) I chose N6OX which I  kept for about 20 years. I then went back to my old call for nostalgic reasons but I have missed the 1x2 call.

I worked for Pacific Telephone since 1954 in the Oakland, CA downtown office maintaining Panel Dial equipment.

I served in the US Naval Air reserve in Oakland, CA from 1955 to 1959  which included a 3 month accelerated training program.
I served in the 4th Army, 39th Infantry for 2 years in Fort Lewis, Washington.  I trained in heavy weapons. Our outfit took part in a detachment to Guantanamo Bay under President Kennedy's administration during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In Sept. 1962  I went back to work for Pacific Telephone which held my job.
I transferred to Concord, CA in 1970 as a Comtech in the Pacific Bell Toll department which dealt with longline carrier equipment. This was a great job working with good people, customers and management.  I studied for and passed the commercial 2nd class and later the 1st class Radiotelephone Licenses.

I have been active on the VHF & UHF bands from 1955 to the present time.  Currently I am on the HF bands participating in the digital modes JT65 & JT9.

I served in the 4th Army, 39th Infantry from 1959-1961
