I was first licensed as a Novice in 1977 (WA6TVI) but was never on the air. Life got busy and I just never had the time to get a station set up. I always had the interest however and finally decided that I had better get busy and do something about it. Unfortunately, my Novice License had expired long ago and I had to start the process all over.

I am now licensed as a General and plan to obtain my Extra class license in the next year or so. In October of 2006 I applied for and was granted the vanity call K6PIJ. The "G" was just too hard to say.

I was employed in Law Enforcement for about 30 years and am retired. My wife and I have recently relocated to Fortuna after running a campground and RV park in Southern Humboldt County for the last 7 years.

We are located approximately 100 miles south of the Oregon border along the coast.

My station is still small, but as time and finances allow I plan on getting more involved with radios. My present rig is a Kenwood TS-570D, which I purchased new. I have a Heil Goldline mic to go along with it and run a G5RV in an inverted V pattern. I also have a Gap Titan antenna. I am interested in 2-Meter and I am working with ARES in my local area. My home ham clubs are Redwood Amateur Radio Club (RARC) and Southern Humboldt Amateur Radio Club (SHARC). I am also a member of the North Western Country Cousins and the Western Country Cousins Nets and you will often find me on these nets in the evenings. Additionally I am an active member of the Western Public Service System and the California Weather Net which meets daily on 3.954 between 0530 and 0730 hrs local time.

I am interested in PSK31 and SSTV and you can find me operating in these modes when I can.
