Click for more detail... The Quarter Century Wireless Association, Chapter 11, Northern California is an active radio club located on the peninsula, south of San Francisco. The above noted photo is a group picture from a recent luncheon meeting that was held at the Sequoia Yacht Club in Redwood City. For up to the minute information or specific details, view: www.qsl.net/qcwa-11/ Club members participated in the ARRL sponsored Field Day activity over the last weekend of June. Some of our club members took part in this communications exercise from Al & Wendy Montoya's private yacht in the Redwood City area at Pete's Harbor. We were on the motor vessel, FERAL. We worked with members of TEARS, (the Elmer Amateur Radio Society). They used their club call sign of KV6R. We used our club call sign of K6QCW on a separate radio and antenna system on board the vessel. Please note that the QCWA National hosted a cruise during the last week of October of 2009 with a lot of radio activities aboard the huge, new cruise ship known as the Eurodam. One of the highlights of the cruise was a private tour of the world's largest radio telescope located near Arecibo. You may recall seeing this mammoth reflective dish antenna in a James Bond movie of many years ago. The cruise ship had several large, new and powerful Icom transcievers available for use by the QCWA members on the cruise. Frequencies & times for QSO's were posted here and reports will be given at the next Chapter 11 luncheon meeting on November 18th at Harry's Hofbrau in Redwood City. Several chapter members will be showing trip photo's and we will discuss the possibility of hosting the QCWA convention sometime in the future.
