Dave was first licensed in 1957 as KN6ZBV. Later as a Conditional Class K6ZBV. In the early 80's he upgraded to Extra Class NB6G, and briefly held K6RY and then his current call K6RC in May of 1997.

He is an avid contester and started his contesting career as a novice in 1957 winning the Novice Roundup that year.  He has competed in many contests since then and has been on a few contest dxpeditions to the island of Aruba. His 1st time in 1988 he participated with "Team Icom" P40V both in the SSB and CW CQWW contest. 

He was a charter member of "River City Contesters" and currently a member of NCCC (Northern California Contest Club).

Dave still chases DX on occasion and still enjoys a ragchew on rare occasions. Most of his contesting is done as a guest op at stations such as, AI6V, P49V, N6RO, K6KM, W6JZH, KN6OX (field day) and others. He is married, has 2 boys and 4 grandchildren. Hobbies include: amateur radio, music &  golfing.   He was on staff at Pizza & Pipes Arden (now closed) as well as Carl Greer Inn and a few other theatre pipe organ venues back in the 70's and 80's. Dave  is currently a fiddle and mandolin player for Riverbend Folk Band and prior he was fiddler for a bluegrass band called the Notorious Shank Brothers.You can gather more information from his website http://www.rietzpiano.com
