Originally licensed in 1960 as KN9AAO. My first station was a Heathkit DX-35, Heathkit AR3-a and a longwire antenna which I just pushed into the coax connector on the DX35 and went for it. Upgraded to General in 1961, Advanced in 1972 and Extra in 1998. I guess I just got used to my call so I never changed it. It rolls nice on CW anyway.

I have worked as a broadcast engineer and as a computer geek. I recently retired from Unix/Linux System Administration. I think Linux is the greatest thing to happen to the home computer market since the Z-80! Agree or disagree, Microsoft is paying attention.

I currently am using a Yaesu FT-897D in my shack. My antennas are as follows: 48' 'double zepp' or doublet, fed with 300 ohm twinlead and terminated in a 4:1 balun. This one works well on 40 and 30 meters. A dipole for 20 meters. A 6 meter 'squalo' and a Larsen 2/70 vertical mounted on a NMO base mount. These antennas are all in my attic! It is tough being a renter!! At least my landlord is 'ham friendly'. He wants to get his license so he treats us OK... hoping I will 'elmer' him. And I will!

I have entered the world of low power PSK-31 and I love it! It is amazing what you can work with this mode. I look forward to making WAS/PSK-31 this year! I normally run 10 watts out because that seems to get the job done.
