100 WATTS & A WIRE ID #968 --- WORKING THE WORLD WITH 100 WATTS & A WIRE!!!
EX callsign: KBØSWN
I was born and raised in International Falls, MN and worked heavy construction there for an underground utility contractor for 25 years operating heavy equipment. I moved to Arizona in the spring of 2014 to be a full time resident, after spending numerous winters here during the winter construction shut downs in Minnesota. I took a new job here April 2014, still operating heavy equipment, and still living the dream of the big yellow machines I had so much as a child!!
I held my original callsign KBØSWN for 20 years. When it came up for renewal in March of 2015, I decided to get a vanity call for area 7. I wanted a callsign that fit my passion for SSB DXing, so I took the callsign N7IDX. Now it kinda seems like starting over, and hunting again for so many of you I have worked before. New logs, new contacts, new QSL cards, but old friends. Looking forward to working you all again, and the many more first timers I have never worked before!!
In closing, I just wanted to give a shout out to my good friend and Elmer Les NØLB ex WBØBBR now a silent key in the big QTH above. Les got me into the hobby in 1995, and our countless hours spent in his shack, his mentoring, all the questions he answered for me, and all the help and hands on he gave me will always be remembered, I am truly grateful for this!! Sadly missed but never forgotten, R.I.P. my good friend until we meet again!!
Below is still some of the older information and pictures under my old call over the years.
Thanks for stopping by my QRZ page and looking around. Hope to get you in my logbook real soon.

MY LIFE IN GENERAL AT THE HOME QTH IN MINNESOTA.......
I was born in November 1966 in a little town on the MN/CANADA border called International Falls, MN., is where I currently reside most of the time.I work heavy construction for a living, mostly water and sewer underground utilities. My job keeps me very busy with long hours, and lots of travel, but I still try to get on the air whenever I can. I am married to a beautiful Peruvian lady named Alicia Rocio (she likes to go by her middle name Rocio), and we like to travel to Peru when we have the time.
First licensed in 1995 as a Technician, then went to Tech. Plus in 1998. Currently hold a General class license which I earned in 1999.
I run a very basic station consisting of a Yaesu FT-840 transceiver, always barefoot - no amp here. Antennas consist of a Cushcraft Ten-3 which is a 10 meter 3 element yagi and a Cushcraft AR10 which is a 10 meter vertical both at 25 feet. Also use a broadband folded dipole made by Barker &Williamson on a Rohn 50' push up pole, with the ends around 40' off the ground, currently broadside tothe east and west. No tuner needed with this dipole, but I have anMFJ 949E tuner I use with some of my other wire configurations.. Station is powered by an Alinco DM-340MV power supply.
My passion is SSB DXing. I love looking for new countries on all the different bands. I am an active member of the Northland Amateur Radio Association which is the local club here in Minnesota, and also a member of Radio Club Peruano in Lima, Peru. I was appointed by the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) as Emergency Coordinator for Koochiching County in 1997, and I am a severe weather SKYWARN spotter for NOAA National Weather Service.
MY DX SPOTTER!!!
Other hobbies include fishing, astronomy, camping, traveling, R/C model airplanes, bicycling, being outdoors, and I am a big NASCAR racing fan.
Thanks for stopping by my QRZ web page and hope to hear you on the bands!
