I was first licensed at age 14 in 1984 as KB4MNG. Things have settled down and decided to get back on the air September 2011. I operate mainly CW and check into the Coastal Carolina Emergency Net, http://ccen.blogspot.com.

My station consist of an Icom 706 MK2G, Kenwood TS 520, Kenwood TS-520s, and a Kenwood TS-830s. I have an Ameritron AL 80A, Ameritron AL-600, and a Dentron Clipperton L. I have two antennas. A K4KIO 6 Band Hex Beam, A Doublet antenna- 120' of wire, 75' of homemade ladder line, Balun Designs 1:1 current balun, and a Palstar AT1500DT Antenna Tuner.

I also enjoy "tinkering" on old radios. My electronic knowledge is limited but really enjoy getting an old radio and bringing it back to life. I'm very partial to the Kenwood Hybirds.

07/01/2013 I finally finished my vintage novice station. A DX 40 and Hammarlund HQ 180. It is rock bound and you will hear me around 7.030 MHZ.

You will now catch me mostly on 40 and 30 meter CW. I occasionally slip over to 20 meters. I use a Pico keyer and a 1950s SPEED-X 501 CW BUG. Also, I have a GHD telegraphy key, made by Toshihiko Ujiie (JA7GHD) in Sendai City. It is really a nice key. On the novice station, I use the old J-37.

28 January 2013, I installed the K4KIO Hex Beam at 35 Feet. I really cannot say enough good things about this antena. It is very light and the performance is outstanding. This is the first beam I have ever owned. Compared to the dipoles I have had thru the years, this antenna is like the difference of night and day! This antenna is on Rohn 25 with a tilt plate. If maintance is required, I just tilt it over with a boat winch.

I have been employed with the North Carolina Highway Patrol since 1991. During the shift, I investigate collisions, write tickets, and do any required task involving a State Road in North Carolina. Currently, I patrol the roads in a 2013 Dodge Charger.

I've been married to Myra for 23 years. She received her license in the early 90's as a Technician plus, her call is KD4BCA.
