When I was nine years old, built a crystal radio kit, my parents had given me for Christmas, as a Scouting Merit Badge Project. Intrigued by the many broadcasts received from all over the world with this simple receiver and a 100 feet wire, I wanted to learn more; this got me started as a SWL.
During the 70s, a few of my friends from High School and College got me involved in CB Radio. During this time, built many kits and home brewed several HF receivers and low powered transmitters. This planted the seed that led to a Novice License in January of 1985. I want to thank my Elmer, John (WA4FAP) for slipping in the five word per minute code test, as a practice session. Today, I'm a holder of an Amateur Extra license, home brewing and restoring HF gear, and chasing DX on CW, Data, and Phone.
