I don't automatically send out QSL cards for contest QSO's. If you want a card, send me one and I'll send one back. I do not require a SASE. FISTS: 12759 DMC: 1103 Look at the MFJ-868 Giant SWR/Wattmeter. Isn't it huge? :) I have been a Ham for about 30 years. I was first licensed (KA9LBM) when I was in high school and spent many hours in the school's ham radio club station. The main rig that I used back then was a Heathkit HW-16 with a fistful of crystals. :) Those were the days! I had lots of fun with that rig. In 1982 I graduated from high school and joined the Navy. During my tour in the Navy, I was stationed at Pearl Harbor, HI and operated the station KH6SP - that was a great station. The main rig there was a Collins S setup, a Drake TR7 and a Rockwell. Many good contacts. After I left the Navy I got away from ham radio for awhile but continued to renew my license. In March 2005 I upgraded my license to General. The VEC's were very helpful - I could not see to read the test - so they read it to me and I answered verbally - still managed to pass. :) Shortly after taking the test I got my first pair of bifocals and I can see again! In August 2006 I moved to Carrollton, TX due to health reasons. My favorite mode is CW, but be patient with me - my fist wears out very quickly and I can usually do just one contact before I have to rest. Diabetes is not fun. :) I have been experimenting with PSK31 and have made several good contacts with very little power. I am working towards getting my Extra. On the issue of the FCC removal of CW proficiency test: I welcome the new hams and hope that they find the hobby as enjoyable as I have over the years. Welcome aboard!
