field day 2013

this was my 1b field day setup at Big Run Wolf Ranch because i was house sitting i setup under the pavilion there. NOTICE THE BEAR SPRAY!!!! HI HI I did have to work a little during that time. and the bear spray is a manditory part of animal handleing. i ran an Icom IC7000 for HF and a Icom ic 2710H for 2mtr and 440 work.. astron rs-35m and a laptop runnig N3FJP software..i also had rig control hooked up, home brew push buttons for the built in voice keyer and motorola external speaker for HF radio. had fun but didnt make a lot of contacts.

the latest changes .. not done yet but for now ill survive!! hi hi!

pic of current shack/workbench

ok this pic has changed and as soon as i can get my bench cleaned off ill take a new pic. the ts570sg has been replaced with a ts2000 and the wires above the switch panel have been covered with a piece of 3/16 plywood painted black. contact via email or kc9qpm@winlink.org if you know the proceedure to get past the spam filter..

The picture of me on the beach in Boca Raton, Fl. in February on vacation with youngest daughter at my brother’s
place.

Boy is there a lot to learn in this hobby. Station has changed here. My main HF rig is Icom IC-7000/ LDG z-100 plus.
[2 complaints lousy sounding speaker. fixed with external speaker and likes to run hot. fixed with computer case fan
aimed at the side of radio.] . 2 800- trunking scanners, main 2mtr/70cm rig is a Kenwood TM V71A that replaced a
tmv7a with messed up screen. Packet rig is an Alinco dr135t w/internal tnc, running mostly aprs.
TNC attached to a Kenwood tm241 and MFJ 1278 turbo for other packet stuff such as DX cluster. I also have another Alinco DR135T with
argent data t2 installed and Garmin NUVI 350 for APRS portable use. I took that and 3 ht's to Florida last February
with my youngest daughter for vacation. ht's consist of too many to list but main ones are Motorola's XTS5000 vhf
p25 digital and XTS3000 uhf p25 digital, I also have a WOUXUN dual band that I carry around the yard, a Motorola
Astro Sabre p25 digital uhf w/convertacom. have a bunch of Kenwood TK260/360's to play with here as well.
Mobile setup now is an Icom IC2710, IC7000, another Alinco dr135t with tnc for aprs running on laptop. A vertex
vx2500u for gmrs and ham uhf.

Computers? Also too many to list but mounted in truck is a dell that i use for packet, aprs, and winlink on the
Alinco and also use rig control via ham radio deluxe on the 7000 for logging which works very well since i have
about an hours drive to work 3 times a week.. in the house i have 2 computers. one is the main unit being a homebrew
with Asus board with a bunch of goodies in it. The second is also an Asus desktops other one runs aprs and storage for files.
A Gateway solo laptop for running packet and aprs and experimenting with...

New to this. first ticket [oct.2009]. upgraded to general end of May 2010. have email kc9qpm@hammail.us .
ps.. the pic is my pal Charlie.. he's just letting me know he's hungry. My first ham shack was my pickup running
Icom208h and for 10mtr work i used a Uniden hr2510 with chipswitch. I did my first contest out of that pickup. ARRL
10 meter contest in Dec 2009.. was a learning experience to say the least.. have added a Icom ic730 10-80meter radio
for cw and digi modes.. had a ic706 in the pickup thats out on loan for now. for the house. kenwood ts570sg has been
added for a second hf rig in the house. Pretty much setup for cw and digi modes and also use for winlink email.

I have erected 2 more towers on property north of the house, making it 3 towers here now .. tallest is 42ft with from
top to bottom.... 160mtr mobile vertical with capacitive hat. 6 mtr 3el homebrew beam, and a ta33m on a HamII rotor,
below that is a 7 ft long stand off with a 6 mtr loop on one end and a tie off for what ever wire i want to raise
up. Mounted on the side of the tower is a 7 el 440 yagi I use for Mototrbo ht to get into a repeater about 20 miles
away. Then below that is a remote antenna switch and a junction box for control wires for rotor and mfj remote antenna switch. I
have also tied on the center of a 160mtr 1/2 wave dipole.
The middle tower is only about 25 ft tall and has a tv rotor on it with a 2mtr jpole, 10el 2mtr horizontal beam, and a
4el 2mtr vertical beam. another 70cm yagi for gmrs stuff mounted on the side at the top.

House tower is about 25ft tall on a hill with an antron 99 at the top. A comet dual band, homebrew dual band, 2.4ghz
yagi for future use {i hope} and mobile mag mounted 2mtr for packet rig. Have a 2x4 standoff about 5ft long with a 10m G5RV
and a 103ft long trap dipole attached. ok im done......... for now!!! hi hi

asto spectra vhf
icom ic2720
mfj 1274
2x pk232mbx's
3 more remote antenna switches 2 are home brew
one is going out on a 4 way receive "U" antenna in the works.

I’ve come a long way since only getting my ticket 3 yrs ago. boredom is also a great motivator.

73 and thanks for looking.
