I am a PBX Operator at a hospital.  My knowledge that I have learned as a HAM Radio Operator gives me the opportunity to help the public with communications if a disaster should occur.  Learning the process for drills and the procedures of an actual occurence will be beneficial to the community.   Being a volunteer HAM is a rewarding experience.
