!!! I have never been to Guantanmo Bay !!!

My country is the USA. Only 2x2 KG4 calls are actually Guantanamo Bay stations.

All 2x1 and 2x3 KG4 calls are USA stations.

First lic in 1977 (at age 25) as WD4IMB & couple yrs later as KG4W. Enjoy contesting & dxing

and (until 1996) did lots of tower climbing/antenna work for local oms. Went qrt in 1996 and

returned to the hobby in 2006. Upon returning, I decided to operate with only wire antennas, so

if if you have worked me since 2006, my antenna was wire. Wire antennas consist of 2 fan dipoles,

1 for 12,17 & 30meters and the other for 10,15,20 & 40meters. Each fan dipole consists of 3 dipoles

fed with one coax, the wires are insulated & seperated by an inch or so, using very small pvc pipe

drilled for each wire to pass through. These 2 antennas are up as true dipoles (not inv vees) at 50-60 feet.

I also have 2 Carolina Windom antennas, one for 10 thru 40 meters (up as a sloper) from 120 feet.

The other covers 10 thru 160 meters & is up as an inv vee, with apex at 120 feet. For recieve help, I

use 4 beverage antennas, each 600-700 ft long. The beverage antennas all originate from a big pine

tree that's located 1100 feet from my rig. Switching between the 4 beverages is accomplished via the

feed coax, using an Ameritron RCS-4 remote antenna switch. Do not ever think that beverage antennas

are only good for the low bands, they can help on all bands. I use a Advanced Receiver Research

20db pre-amp on the beverages, located between the antenna switch and my Yaesu FT1000mp MarkV

rig. Amplifier is the Yaesu Quadra, this is a sweet amp ie - 2 inputs, 4 antennas & ant tuner, all solid state.

So now at age 70, I'm content to try and work new "band countries" & play in a few contests with my wire ants.

I also enjoy all the new technology available in our hobby today - Dx4Win (log program), N1MM (contest program)

Spotting networks, Club Log, QRZCQ, Lotw, Eqsl, Dx-Qsl Digest and all the associated forums & reflectors.

For example, it's pretty neat to work UA0BA on 12meters or YI1RZ on 30m and have confirmation with the

ARRL via LOTW in a few days !! I upload all qsos to LOTW & EQSL & CLUB LOG and I answer all qsl requests

that are sent to me direct (no $ or IRC needed). To be honest, I cannot find the time to answer all the Buro cards,

so I ask, please do not send cards via Buro.

All the best - Ed - KG4W
