***** 53 Years Licensed 1963 - 2016 *****
2016 March-April Costa Rica Ops : TI2,5/KM4HI. CQ WPX SSB Contest TI0DX M/S team.
I was licensed in 1963 as a Novice, WN4RXS, in West Palm Beach, Fl, while a sophomore in high school. I upgraded the following year to Advanced Class as WA4RXS. I was a Radioman 2nd Class in the USCG Reserve 1970-73 in Riviera Beach and Jacksonville, Fl. In 1974, as a Meteorology graduate from Florida State University, I worked on the GATE Program based in Dakar, Senegal, West Africa. I operated as WA4RXS/6W8 along with a team from the University of Wisconsin. Thanks to Jacques, 6W8DY, who helped with the licensing. I also operated maritime mobile on the RV Gilliss (U of Miami) during the experiment. It was a blast re-discovering the hobby in 2009 (using my 1960's vintage Swan 260 and 18AVT vertical) and being "radioactive" once again! I upgraded from Advanced to Extra Class in 2010. Made significant upgrades to rigs and antennas. In 2011, I joined up with the NQ4I Super Station, in Georgia, through my ham buddy of 50 years, Mark W4SVO, sadly an SK in 2014. I share the mult-op duties (some run) during the CQWW SSB/CW and CQWPX SSB contests 2011-2015. Great bunch of guys with Rick as the super host for these events. I enjoy chasing DX, contesting, tinkering with antennas, chasing Antarctica, Museum Ships and Lighthouses. Member: Florida Contest Group (FCG), OMISS #9794, Marion Emergency Radio Team (MERT). Recently retired after 35 years in the electronics industry. More time now to play radio, golf and travel!
