Born in Harstad 17th of April 1952. My father was one of the first radio amateurs in North Norway with callsign LA1U. I started out at early age (15) participating in radio amateur courses held by Harstad group of NRRL - LA1H. I got my own license with callsign LA8UL, 22nd of May 1968, 16 years old.
Very active on HF bands from LA1H, especially between 1968-1974. Worked in all major contests together with other members of "The Harstad Gang", LA1LF, LA9OI, LA5NM, LA8XM, LA4KQ, LA4NL and others.
Became a wireless operator autumn 1972 after studying at the Army Radio School at Jorstadmoen close to Lillehammer in Southern Norway.
Joined the Royal Norwegian Air Force in 1975 as a crew member onboard the P3B Orion aircraft detached to 333 squadron at Andoya Air Base. The base is located at Andenes (the very tip of Andoy Island). Also very active from the Andoy Group of NRRL - LA7A.
Moved to Sorreisa autumn 1983. Only active on higher bands due limited antenna space. No HF activity from mid 80's. However, initiated a few radio amateur courses in order to populate more hams in the local area of Midt-Troms.
My latest deployment abroad was to UK from 2001-2005, four years at Air Operation Centre CAOC 9 High Wycombe, North West of London. Now retired from Air Force and settled with family in Sorreisa, 300 Km North of The Arctic Circle. And again active on HF bands after 20 years of non-activity.
Johnson Viking Ranger (TX) and Trio (RX) as my very first set up.1975: Drake C-line and lately Drake 7 line with TR7, R7 upgrade, RV75, L7 and MN 2700. Now using Icom IC-7600 with Alpha linear amplifier into ground mounted BigIR mk III vertical with 107 radials each 10 meter long.
As of 5th July 2011 Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority approved my application to use LA1U as my new Callsign.
