Lithuanian and Polish hams will operate special event stations to mark
the 80th Anniversary of the Lithuanian pilots Darius and Girenas flight
across Atlantic Ocean.

Darius and Girėnas were Lithuanian
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithuania>pilots, emigrants to the United
States <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States>, who made a
significant flight in the history of world aviation
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aviation_history>.
On July 15, 1933, they flew across the Atlantic Ocean
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_Ocean>, covering a distance of
3,984 miles (6,411 kilometers) without landing, in 37 hours
and 11 minutes (107.1 mph). In terms of comparison, as far as the
distance of non-stop flights was concerned, their result ranked second
only to that of Russell Boardman
<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Russell_Boardman&action=edit&redlink=1>
and John Polando
<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Polando&action=edit&redlink=1>,
and ranked fourth in terms of duration of flight at the time. Although
Darius and Girenas did not have navigational
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navigational>equipment and flew under
unfavorable weather <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weather> conditions, the
flight was one of the most precise in aviation history.
It equaled, and in some aspects surpassed,Charles Lindbergh
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Lindbergh>'s classic
flight./Lituanica/also carried the first Transtlanticair mail
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_mail> consignment in history.
