QSL image for M0CTR

+++++++Now QRT+++++++++++

Due to a recent house move my existing station is no more. My new house does not lend itself too well to the hobby and I don't know if I have the stomach or the interest to start all over again with masts, antennas and equipments etc. Only time will tell. I reached 317 DXCC (319 Deleted) from the current entity list. Acheived with a modest set up in a (in radio terms)poor typical urban location. I will continue to honour any QSL card requests for both my home call and my activety in Jersey. Thanks to all those that have commented on my page.

                           Wiltshires Most Famous Landmark

Wiltshire is also famous for the many crop circles that appear every summer.

Most appear at night in the space of a few hours often with out anyone noticing. The

complexity and size of these patterns would make it almost impossible to be man made

wouldn't it? ............That being the case who or what is making them!!!!!smiley

Look closely at the two below, thats people stood in the center!

Click on the link below for further information on the contsruction of the above crop circle............ ask yourself these

three questions, could this bemade.............

1 Under cover of darkness?

2 In one night?

3 With no lights and no eye wintesses?

It appeared close to the town of Marlborough Wiltshire with a population of just over 9000 No other damage

to the surrounding crop! In most cases the surrounding crops are only damaged by the many sight-seers that

decend on the location once the circle has been made and noticed, in some cases from outside the UK!

Thats a lot of travelling if you know its just a hoax !indecision

noticed, in someOnce you have clicle

Once you have clicked on the link and briefly scanned the 60 stages, ask yourself the above thee questions again!!

2013 "Where are they"

2013 has been a great summer here in Wiltshire, dry and warm and a great Harvest, a recipe for many new circles in perfect corn?

Not the case, this year has seen the least amount of new circles appear for more years than many experts care to remember.
Even one of the national news papers has ran an article on the lack of circles!! Two below are of interest. First the location,
the road above the circle is the main A4, a busy road both day and night and the main road to London if not using the motorway.
Above that you can see the oval ring of the local horse training circuit.
The white strip at the edge of the road is a layby used by numerous walkers especially with dogs. In summary this is not an isolated spot.
At night it could not have been made in the dark without lights and not be seen from the busy road by someone. Also the surrounding area is flat,
no hills to look down from to admire the formation. Who is the captive audience hereblush No one at all unless you are flying overhead.
Once a farmer knows a circle has appeared on his land they are keen to cut the crop to avoid further damage from the many viewers that desecnd once the news is out. A circle is classed a criminal damage, crying even more of a reason not to make one next to a main road!!. The track shown in the bottom left of the picture leads to the local shooting club, again well used in the week as well as weekends.

First Reported on August 23rd 2013

Below this formation was first reported 19th August 2013 near Devizes, about 12 miles from my home.
Not the most complex design compared with some seen over the years but look at the outer circle,
the corn is not just folded over its been effectively weaved in that circle, to maintain the accuracy of
the circle and the weave would have taken a huge amount of time. Surley its the final pattern that is
being created not the detail of how that formation is made, if you are up against time, in the dark and
not wanting to be caught is all that extra work worth taking the risk for? enlightened

Detail of the weave pattern close up!

Wiltshire Crop Circle Evolves in Three Phases

2012 has not been a great summer in Wiltshire but still some 18 new circles have appeared. This one is particularly

interesting as it has was formed in three stages. Easier to make in several goes one might think but as soon as a

new circle appears people decend from all over the place including the sky. Looking closely at the ariel shot you only

have to see the amount of people visiting this one already. With so many people present how could any one decend

on this location not once but twice to complete this formation in three stages with out being spotted? indecision

Look carefully below, in the background can bee seen one of the White horses, cut into the Wiltshire

chalk hillsides. This one is The Alton Barnes Horse, Recently it was iluminated at night which made

for a great site in the pitch darkness.

One other that has appeared in August 2012 is close to the Avebury Stone circle, (see further down for more info on Avebury)

The CUBE 2012

The Cube was first reported on August 26th this year (it wasn't there on the 24th)

See below, three people standing in the pattern, one at 6 O:Clock, one at 5 O:Clock and the other at 4

Look at the intricacy and accuarcy of this CUBE (3 Dimensional when seen from above). Not only has the circle been

made with exact and precise accuarcy but the corn that has been flattened has been carefully laid evenly in a weaved formation, see below.

Even the small triangles have been carefully woven flat, (just look at how many there are). Its one thing to plan, mark out and flaten the corn to

make this Cube pattern but to spend the time invloved to flatten the corn in this carfeul way and all in the dark!!surprise

Anyone that thinks this was a quickly put together affair by????? should maybe take a look at the link below. (be prepared for a long sit down) enlightened

Thee previous cubes that have previously appeared in Wiltshire

See below, in the back ground can be seen Silbury Hill,The largest man-made mound in Europe, mysterious Silbury Hill

compares in height and volume to the roughly contemporary Egyptian pyramids. Probably completed 4750 years ago and

calculated that it took 18 million man-hours, or 500 men working 15 years in around 2400 BC! After many excavations

no burial chamber was ever found and its purpose today remains a mystery.

That’s a lot of effort for no known reason!!

It lies at the edge of the road between Chippenham and Marlborough

This whole area is full of ancient man made remnants from many thousands of years ago, including ancient burial chambers,

and Avebury Stone circle again the largest prehistoric stone circle of its kind in Europe Famous throughout the world and

visited by people from around the Globe throughout the year.

See the White van passing by the hill on the center left to gain some idea of the size

Avebury Stone circle seen from above .While the defensive ditch remains in good condition(apart from the road passing through the centre). The full circle of stones is not intact.

Excavation studies have shown that there were 154 stones total when the Avebury ring was first built out of which 36 total are still standing.

There are three theories about why the stones may have been removed, the first two have to do with modernization in which the stones were moved so that crops could be planted and the rock could be used to build foundations of homes and shops. The third theory is that in the 14th century the stones may have been broken up by Christian authorities in an attempt to remove pagan religion from the area.

It is often speculated that the Avebury ring was part of a large serpent design that passed through a circle to form an alchemical symbol and that the area may have been part of a temple. Its exact use by ancient civilizations has not yet been fully understood.

Again a huge effort made by so many over such a long period for the reason only to be lost in time!

Finally the Roman City of Bath, just 18 Klm from my home town of Chippenham
