I will off on a new ship for a temporary assignment starting 2 January 2015.  I will be on the Mass Maritime Academy's training cruise onboard the TS KENNEDY as a deck watch officer.  I have received permission from the Master to operate.  I hope to run Robust Packet APRS from the ship as well as showing the cadets how HF radio works.  This will fit into the deck officer's GMDSS class as well as their Emergency Manager major for auxillary emergency communications.  The trip will be down the East Coast of the US and into the northern areas of the Caribbean Sea so good conditions into NA and SA are expected.  Only time will tell what kind of shack I will be able to set up.  I hope to be active from 40 to 6 meters and hope to work from KP2 and KP4 as well.

I am a Merchant Marine Officer sailing as Master of the MV CAPT STEVEN L BENNETT (not the ship above). I have a Master Unlimited Ocean license as well as a Chief Engineer (limited Oceans) and 1st Ass't Engineer, steam, motor and gas turbine of any horsepower license. I also have my GROL and my GMDSS-b with Radar endorsement commercial radio licenses.

From the ship I run mostly keyboard PACTOR I/II/III on 14.109 CF and Robust Packet (RPR) APRS on 30M. I will sometimes run PSK31 or SSB from the ship.

From the home QTH you can usually find my prowling the Digital portions of 10, 15, and 20 mtrs. I operate PSK31, RTTY, MFSK16, Feld-Hell, Clover II or Clover 2000, PacTor I/II/III, G-Tor, and even AMTOR. If you are an avid PSKer, check out the PODXS 070 Club .

My father and mother are both Amateur radio operators, and I enjoy talking to them on the air.
