The nickname "Ham Nut" is from an msn.com group we founded some years ago: "Ham Nut's World"
When we were first licensed as KG4HKY we soon discovered very little local elmering being done.
Guess the hobby just wasn't as interesting then locally as we thought it to be?
Thank goodness for HF Radio & our use of the internet!
Our days of 'camping out' on local VHF/UHF repeaters are over!!
We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE any new ham to get their GENERAL ticket.
You'll soon see WHY!! There's a whole world out there waiting for YOU!!!
Don't let any of the 'Old Timers' discourage you. Thier fault they've lost the JOY!!
Left the 60 & 160 Meter measurements out as we seldom use these bands.
Currently studying as time allows for Extra Class here (But not real hard!)
Through this group we introduced a lot of 'non-hams' to this exciting hobby!!

Ham Operator's Lament
Dear Lord, please help me to learn never to say;
“10-4 Good Buddy!” over the repeater today.
Lord, you know I just wanna say things just right!
Because I know there's some just wanting a fight.
They've got nothing much better to do each day
than to just lie there waiting for a chance to say;
“Hey, now just who do you think you are?”
“You know this here repeater reaches out really far!”
Why don't you just get what ya gotta say over & done?
“This here frequency is to be used by everyone!!”
“No, I ain't got no time to give you a radio check!”
“Now, move on buddy before I break your neck!!”
Lord, help me to remember why I even bothered to study.
The Amateur Radio Service Rules, to some, seem so cruddy!
I can't for the life of me figure out as to the reason
why folks such as these are always so displeasing.
And, Lord, please help me to never forget to ID!
Especially when I'm on an open repeater frequency!
I just know somebody's timing me by their little clock.
Just so's they can deliver an ON AIR shock!!
To quote verbatim the rules from the government's FCC.
Hoping to embarrass the miscreants in all their glee.
Lord, help to know when it's the right time to Sign!
Else they'll accuse me of thinking the frequency is mine.
And help me not to never ever possibly forget.
The Amateur Radio Service is more than answering a net!
That it's a hobby to be shared by every ham licensee.
And that we should always elmer new hams joyfully!

There are a few 'ham radio' web sites that I am proud of due to the fact that I am their manager and creator. I spend a lot of time on the internet trying to encourage potential "hams" into obtaining their "ticket" (license). A lot of my time can be found being spent on Twitter and Facebook. Will have to 'Allow' you to Follow me on Twitter to avoid spammers and will have to 'Friend' you on Facebook for same reason. You will need an account in both places to participate. Sorry!! That's the internet!!

To date we have assisted a number of area hams in antenna and tower installations.
Also, have helped folks to find a vanity call sign that had their initials or had lettering that pertained to a specific interest. That was a real nice gesture. I thought!! Hi Hi Don't do that very often now these days. Will see what calls are available upon request though!

We monitor all area 2 Meter repeaters during the day and early evening hours. And am in scan mode when we are out mobile. Mostly we can be called on 146.450 MHz Simplex or 146.900 MHz repeater (WB4ACN) when seen mobile. HF mobile unit in the works here with advent of new truck. Stay Tuned?

HF has proven to be much more enjoyable as you don't have to pretend to like someone when in QSO (CONVERSATION) and it's easier to talk to those whom don't readily know you or what's been your history/past. Just a simple 'ragchew' for the contact means a lot these days! Lots of QSL cards collected here show how much we miss all of the local repeater crapola! Hi Hi
