Born and raised in southern Saskatchewan. Licensed as OA3NO in December 1965.Initially operated CW on 7.037 crystal controlled with a homebrew 1625 rig and Drake 2-B into a 3 element 40 meter wire beam. Upgraded to Peruvian Advanced in 1966 with the call OA3O and went on SSB with a Heathkit 400. In 1968, built a 36' wooden self-supporting tower and a 4 element 3 band quad and added a Heathkit 200 linear. Very active from central Peru between July 1968 and June 1971. Limited operation from Chiclayo, Peru as OA3O/OA2 July 1972 to June 1973. Active again from Huánuco - July 1973 to June 1976 with a rhombic for 20 meters and a Drake TR-4. August 1977 – June 2001 operated as OA4YS from Lima, Peru with a series of homebrew Delta Loops, Quads and an XQ Quad using Drake TR-4s to a pair of 3-500Z. July 2001 to present - station operational at N4TF with two Drake TR-4s, Drake 2-B, ICOM 751A, ICOM 2200H and a Heath 220 – listen a lot but little activity. Licensed as VE5DD in 1967 – upgraded to Canadian Advanced Amateur in 1982. Operated from Weyburn SK 1981-1982. Passed the American Extra Class in 1992. Current antennas: a 3 element 10 meter Delta Loop, 80 meter horizontal loop, a 3 element 80 meter wire beam and a stacked array of four, 4 element circular loop beams (Quads) on 2 meters. All my antennas have been homebrew. The XYL is KE4GVI, daughter N2JWV and son KC4DWR. Our daughter gained permission from the Republic of Guinea and operated 3XY4A from Kindia in 1997. My other hobbies: Restoration of WWII aircraft, particularly from the BCATP in Canada – with special interest in the Westland Lysander MK III and the Avro Anson MKs I & II.
