First station was Homebrew 6DQ6 MOPA 35 watt Xmtr, Heathkit AR-3 receiver,Homebrew Cubical Quad Antenna. Served with 101st Airborne Division - Vietnam 1968/1969 where I was NCOIC for Army MARS station AB8AY. (QST Magazine Article November/December 1990 "Calling Home from Vietnam"). B.S.E.T Arizona State University 1974. U.S. Merchant Marine Radio Officer for a short stint 1978. Held FCC First Class Radio-Telephone and 2nd Class Radio-Telegraph Licenses. Retired at 54 in 2002, after working in research and development for RF communications and industrial control products. I now devote much time doing volunteer work including recruiting new hams, acquiring free equipment for local students who have just acquired a license and training aspiring contestors. Current station, ICOM IC-7800, ACOM 2000A Amp, SteppIR MonstIR Yagi at 72 ft, Force 12 80 Mtr Dipole at 94 ft. 80 and 160 mtr wire antennas with 6 ft RX loop, on a small suburban lot in north central San Diego. Member of Southern CA Contest Club, San Diego Contest Club and San Diego DX Club. Had great pleasure of being a team member of 6E2T DX-pedition to Mexico in 1995 for ARRL CW and winning Multi-Two World.
