Every year I try to go portable for the California QSO Party contest in October. My home county is Sonoma but I have operated from Yuba(twice),Modoc,Lake,Glenn,Del Norte(three),Colusa,Mendocino(twice) ,Sierra , Trinity and Lassen counties. These have all been portable "Field Day Style" camping county expeditions. The most fun I have all year!I enjoy CW mostly but also use SSB.I am a long time member of the Redwood Empire DX Association located north of San Francisco and also the Northern California DX Foundation and the Northern California Contest Club.I have also enjoyed QRP. My age is 63. I also enjoy bicycling (I have ridden the RAGBRAI bicycle ride across Iowa 5 times),, running, backpacking, fishing, and travel. My qth is located about 70 miles(110km) north of San Francisco in the beautiful California "Wine Country". The Pacific Ocean is located about 25 miles(40km) west of here. The dog with me in the photo was my old dog Molly a Belgian Malinois. She accompanied me on several CQP county expeditions but unfortunately she is a "Silent Key" now. My current station consists of a Yaesu FT-950 with a Steppir 3 element beam at 15 meters up. I use a trapped inverted vee dipole for 30-40-80 meters. I run barefoot and have never had an amp. (I could use one once in awhile,hi!) I firmly believe in QSLing but I am known for being a bit slow!! I am currrently working on getting set up on LOTW. Tnx es 73, Fred
