Hello from the oldest town in West Virginia, Shepherdstown. Also home of Shepherd University and lots of tourists! Nearby is Harpers Ferry National Historic Park (beautiful spot at eastern tip of state) and in MD, the C&O Canal National Historic Park (178 miles long!) and Antietam National Batttlefield.

My station is 2 miles SE of town at an elevation of 435 ft and is not good for VHF in any direction with mountains in basically every direction not too far away and a nearby one across the Potomac River to the East. I can see MD (a 2 mile walk away), PA, VA, and WV from a few feet up the tower. The station is modest for a contester with a single 90 ft tower topped with Hy-Gain 5 el. monobanders for 20-15M, a homebrew 2 el. 12M yagi and Force 12 C3S fixed south at 60 ft. Lots of wires hang from the tower. Inside is currently a FT-1000 and Ten-Tec Titan amp. I have operated LP in quite a few contests as well as QRP a few times which adds to the challenge. I don't use packet at any time, it spoils the fun of the hunt. Outside of contests, I chase counties which glues you to the chair a bit too much (see MARAC.org for info). I also chase DX; 160, 30, 12, 10, and 6 meters are favorites. I am a member of the Potomac Valley Radio Club contest group which has members from PA to NC (see PVRC.org).

I've operated from W3LPL and W8ZA nearby in numerous contests multiop. I also operated with groups at FS5UQ, N8II/VP2E, PJ2CC, P41C, P41E. I am currently intersted in state QSO parties which are surprisingly competitive as well as DX contests, and my favorite, the ARRL 10M Contest which I have won in SOHP mixed and SOHP CW categories.

I currently can't upload logs to LOTW, sorry.

IF YOU WANT A QSL, PLEASE SEND A SASE. I always include return postage when I need a QSL; "do unto others" applies. After the USA County Hunter contest in May '07, I received over 60 QSL's! So, it does take up time and money to answer them. I will answer USA cards without return postage if sent within 3 months of the QSO. DX direct requests must include return postage, or will be answered via BUREAU.

Oct 10-12, 2011 I plan to activate WV counties from my mobile: Morgan, Hampshire, Mineral, Grant,Preston, and Tucker. I will be traveling out daytime Oct 10 and returning to Jefferson Co. daytime Oct 12. Will run Grant/Tucker and Preston/Tucker lines AM of the 11th around 14-15Z. QRV on county hunter net frequencies 7056.5, 7188, 10122.5, 14056.5, 14336, 18136, 18091.5, ans 21.056 kHz.

LOOK FOR ME (MOBILE/ROVER) IN THE PA QSO PARTY ON SATURDAY OCT 8 FROM PER, JUN, HUN, FRA, FUL. I will be mostly on CW: 7037, 14037,21037 kHz. May try SSB around 14275 and 21375. I may also be QRV farther SW in PA on Oct 9.
