I started out as a short wave listener at my grandfather's farm where he had an old Aircastle tombstone receiver that had 3 shortwave bands that included 160 - 20 meters. My goal was to get a license so I could talk to W9HIF, W9LUQ, and WA8FVD. In 1966 I received my Novice license and later in December I upgraded to General (WA9SRV). My first rig was a Heathkit Cheyenne and Comanche that I purchased from K9CJM. I enjoy making AM contacts on my Heathkit DX100/Hammarlund HQ170. My SSB/CW rigs are an old Kenwood TS520, a Kenwood TS520S and a really old Phasemaster II. Antennas are 160, 80 and 40 meter inverted Vs. 2 meter antenna is a homebrew J-pole. Besides ham radio I am a private pilot and sing in a barbershop quartet (Gadzooks) and a barbershop chorus (New Tradition Chorus - www.newtradition.org. I am currently the webmaster for the Vintage SSB Net that meets on 3840 khz every Saturday morning around 9:00 am. You can view our rigs at www.vintagessb.net You can view my webcam at: http://n9ms.com:8888 when I'm on the air or use the Cam Radio software.
