First licensed in 1963 with my Novice call of WN4LPV, soon to become WA4LPV. I became active on the CW traffic system and fell in love with CW. Receive my Mechanical Engineering Degree from Georgia Tech in 1970 and worked as an Environmental Engineer in Atlanta.
In 1976, my wife & I moved back to Spartanburg, SC, to take over a small family business where we still work. In 1996, I obtained the Vanity call W4ABE and then in 2012, traded it for NN4SS.
I mostly chase DX now.
My equipment includes a K3 tranceiver, KPA500 Amp, P3 Panadapter and other Elecraft equipment. My big amp is an ACOM 2000A and my antenna is a 3 element Steppir at 100 feet. I still prefer CW, but I also operate SSB.
I am very active in the local club and participate in the many activities that we sponsor.
My other interest include Cars, Motorcycles, Computers, Guns & Martial Arts. I retired from the martial art of AIKIDO in 2001 after 20 years of practice.
My Elmer was Fritz Nitsch W4NTO, who helped me with everything and still helps other Hams at the ripe age of 94. He installed my 100 foot tower at the age of 76.
