Hello, My name is Don Risavy, Jr.; NR4DR and I've been a Ham op since January 1974 when obtained my novis license at the age of 17 from the Florida school for the Blind in St. Augustine, Florida where we had an active Ham Radio club and station of WA4TNG. Soon afterwords became quite active in public service and the ARES and other emergency functions and activities such as H.F nets primarily on CW. Then once got my General class or back then Conditional class license got on both CW and phone nets handling a wide variety of national traffic systemmessages both during emergencies and non emergencies. I've been net manager of several nets from QFN The all Florida CW traffic net to the Early bird net wich both were CW nets. Have also been regional liasons from QFN to 4rn and also from phoen nets FAST, FTptn etc. to QFN. I'm also involved as can be with our local ARES or emergency operations and have been the net manager for the local ARES net Escambia County emergency net on VHF.    Have won several QLF or left foot CW contest at various ham fest with two first place and one second place finish and speeds of up to around 18 wpm using my foot which have to contribute that to all my years off and on of playing drums. I've had my Extra class since the early 90's think was 1991 without looking at my license and currently hold a vanity call of NR4DR with the suffix of course being my first and last name initials. I'm stil active on CW even though just not as much or often since the invention of the electronic world of computers and such resources as EchoLink, APRS etc.; but, can still swing a mean CW paddle and receive well over 20 wpm a minute both by ear and by using print or braille. I operate a Kenwood TS440S/AT and a G5RV up about 35 feet plus use both a Kenwood TM707A dual band transceiver on a dual band Ringo Ranger up about 20 feet as well as, use a Icom Ic-T90A tri band HT. I also use a MFJ grandmaster 486 contestor  electronic CW keyer with a brass racer  dual keyer paddle. I've been blind or have lived with my blindness since birth from a disease called RP that really affected my sight when was in my 20's. I only can see light and some days that's questionable depending on how my day is going stress wise and sleep/rest wise too.  I don't let it stop me from doing or at least trying to do most any and everything and am very independent. I also got my BS degree from Florida State university in 1983 and also am certified as a CompTia A+ PC technician and also have over 20 years of computer experience that began back in 1987 and knowledge that have basicly taught myself.  I also maintain sseveral domains and webpages with the one that everyone should check out which is Ham Radio and Emergency service related at http://www.risavy.us/. I also just became this year 2010 and month April 23 the first life time member of QRZ too.  So as you can see from just my brief biography am quite diversed in a wide area of knowledge and experience. So hope to work you one day either on H.F CW, H.F phone, VHF/UHF or echoLink or via e-mail from my webpage. Tnx cul 73 from NR4DR.

PY2KW, Nelson Pala was a phys. ed. teacher at Avare' C.E.E.N.Cel. Joao Cruz High School. He eventually became the principal and was admired by parents and students. He taught me and other students the first steps of marching band, volleyball and in the art of Ham Radio.
