I was first licensed as WN9YZN/WA9YZN in 1967 from Champaign, Illinois. Through the years I have been licensed WA9YZN, WB0OKQ, G0WVI, and NY0V. I currently operate as NY0V here in Chatfield, MN. (EN33, Fillmore County) DXpeditions to-date include T30CXX (2) and T32CXX. I also ran in a M/S contest operation as VP5S in the 2013 ARRL DX CW.

My wife and I built a log home, retired, and then moved to Chatfield in June 2010. It was a big change after living 36 years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where I worked for Rockwell Collins. (Collins Radio)

Hobby interests include chasing DX, contests, operating CW and playing with antennas. The current rig is a Yaesu FT-2000 (with the NS Roofing Filter mod from AC0C) and the VL-1000 Quadra amplifier as shown below:

The antennas include a 4 element SteppIR yagi- modified to what might be called a "DB-32" (details below), an 80-6m Mark III Big IR Vertical, and the 80m Inverted Vee. The vertical is phased with a Comtek Phasing Unit. The second vertical used in phasing is a DX Engineering fast-taper 40m vertical. The tower is a motorized crank up/tilt over Tri-Ex LM-470 (70'/22m)

My latest antenna project has been to add another 40/30 folded dipole loop to the Director #2 position on the SteppIR. I had to change the software in the controller to command Director #2 to extend out as a reflector on 40 and 30m. (And reel in the Reflector and Director 1) This addition makes a 2 ele beam on 40 and 30m that is "backfired" 180 degrees. Thus, the DB-32 moniker. See also EA6DX's site for his pictures.

Modified 4e as DB32 during a nice Minnesota Fall

The country total is 355 Mixed (340/15), 334 on 40 meters, with 2400+ on the Challenge award. The DXCC #1 Honor Roll award (Mixed, PH) was received in 2007 thanks to the BS7H operation. I also hold 5BDXCC (+30, 17, and 12m endorsements) and WAZ. Like most, I still need P5 on CW! 2011: CQ Marathon 3rd Place World, 1st Place North America. That one was a LOT of work!

I am a member of the Collins Amateur Radio Club, W0CXX (collinsclubs.org), the Eastern Iowa DX Association, N0DX (eidxa.org), Minnesota Wireless Association, W0AA, (w0aa.org), Twin Cities DX Association (tcdxa.org), and Radio Farm (rf.org), N0MA.

The DXpeditions have been to Tarawa, West Kiribati where I have operated as T30CXX in 2002 and 2006 and Christmas Isd, East Kiribati, T32CXX in the Oct 2008 CQWW SSB. All QSO's have been QSL'd.

For VP5/NY0V: QSL with SASE to NY0V if Direct. Otherwise, Bureau is fine.

73's Tom
