The work-horse, as far as HF-ops is concerned...

 

My shack's general arrangement

 

For the last three years the only HF antenna i use is a modest multiband vertical one

Sandpiper MV-10: nominal band coverage is 6 meters through 160 meters

However, the last two months i've been operating HF

using a modest random lenght wire antenna,

fed  through an automatic antenna coupler...

Below is a small picture of "what's inside the box"...

In the following set-up, pretty much everything is a perfect example of what NOT to do...

[wire's height above ground, block of concrete in the vicinity of the wire's path etc.]

However, there are times of day/night that propagation is on my side, even with the specific set-up...
