Click for more detail... International Museums Weekend 2009 - Museums ON THE AIR ! A Special Event is taking place on the weekends of June 20th & 21th and 27st & 28nd. SX2MT (Makedonian Tombs): Museum of Vergina – Royal Tombs. Vergina (aka Aigai) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vergina ) is a small village, 12 km away from Veria and 75 km away from Thessaloniki. In ancient times, Aigai was the capital of Makedonian Kingdom (3-4 century b.C). At this place the tomb of King Philip II was found, father of Alexander the Great. This tomb, together with other Royal tombs are in very good conditions. They are visible to the public and their marvelous finds are exhibited in the nearby museum. In 1996, the archaeological importance of Vergina led UNESCO to add it to its list of World Heritage Sites.
