I began as VE3PE2GE SWL in 1961 using a Marconi R1155A , which my Dad brought home at the end of WWII. Finally in 1976 , I received my ham ticket; and my first call VE3ICR. In December 1993 I changed to VA3DX , altho I still keep the VE3ICR call also. I have operated from Montserrat VP2M/VE3ICR in 1986 and often in January since as 8P9DX.

When at 8P9DX in January, I enter in the CQ WW 160 meter CW contest.

I also operated as CI8C in 1988, at Resolute Bay, Nunavet Terr; also holding the call VE8GW. In 1989 I travelled to the USSR and operated /ua1 /ua3 .

I prefer CW, RTTY and some SSB, on any band. I have currently 265 countries confirmed on Top Band, this has taken 26 years. Sort of difficult in the city with no beverage antennas and lots of local city noise.

I have all countries worked and confirmed on SSB. , 340 on CW , need the P5 ( cw ) of course, and currently 337 on RTTY.

Since May 2006 I have worked / confirmed 110 countries on 50 mhz !! Now qrv every Sporatic E season on 6 meters, looking forward to F2. I just recently aquired a Heathkit SB220 from the estate of my friend Bill WA2MNM ( SK ). This has now been converted to a single band 6 meter amp, good for 900 watts output with a pair of 40 year old 3-500's !

I am 61 years old and have 2 grown daughters; 34 and 31 yrs of age, plus 2 grandsons. My EX-wife decided she did not like the radio, HI HI !!

Equipment:

Yaesu FT1000MP - Yaesu FT2000D - Kenwood TS930s

ALPHA 76A , now using a pair of 3CPX800A7's

Heathkit SB220 (converted single band 6 meter amp now )

In the photo is my buddy " Bennie " and myself in the shack ( May 9 , 2009 Bennie became SK )

A mix of Poodle and Dandy-Dinmont ( he is a Dandy-Doodle ) and aged 15years. A constant companion who never strays far away. Photo taken March 2008 ( Bennie passed away in May 2009 at 16 1/2 years. )

Now have a new puppy " Buddie " a black Cock-a-poo who carries on the tradition of stealing my socks whenever possible.

I live on a average city lot, with lots of hydro, cable and telephone lines above ground. No room for any beverages etc.

My qth is 20 km west of Niagara Falls , Ontario. My city has a population of 135,000 .

The Niagara area is the Wine producing area of Ontario . I am about 1 mile west of the

Welland Ship Canal, which connects Lake Ontario to Lake Erie.

I enjoy contesting and DXing.and 6 meters !

All qsos confirmed by LOTW , direct or by bureau( slow )

For direct USA qsl's need $1.00 USA

For direct DX qsls , need $2.00 USA or 1 new IRC

Hope to see you on the bands Glenn VA3DX VE3ICR 8P9DX

PY2KW, Nelson Pala was a phys. ed. teacher at Avare' C.E.E.N.Cel. Joao Cruz High School. He eventually became the principal and was admired by parents and students. He taught me and other students the first steps of marching band, volleyball and in the art of Ham Radio.
