QSL to VK3CAT via the VK3 bureau please.
My interests in Amateur Radio are HF portable, 6 metre DX plus general HF operations. I am occasionally active on 2 metres SSB.
I achieved Worked All States on 2 metres in 1999. Other interests are with my family. I enjoy camping, four wheel driving & outback touring. I can encorporate radio into these hobbies. Also VKS737 - Mobile 5715. Member of the Toyota Landcruiser Club Victoria
More recently I have become an active SOTA chaser and now an activator. For activations I am using an Elecraft KX3 fully optioned that I assembeled from kit form. This has also led to a renewed intrest in CW - presently comfortable at 15WPM but struggle with pile ups! The main SOTA antenna is a 20 metre double extended zepp / doublet supported on a 7 metre squid pole. In May / June 2014 I activated from France as F/VK3CAT/P with an Alex loop antenna..
My Sota blog is http://vk3cat.wordpress.com/
The home station presently consists of 3 shortwave receivers DX300, FRG7 and FRG8800, the later with the VHF module and FRA and FRT7700 options. There are also 2 x Realistic scanners - a Pro 2006 and an old PRO2010
The main transceiver is a Yaesu FT847 with optional filters. I use this with the FL2100Z amplifier and FC902 tuner.
Antennas are: 6 element 6 metre yagi, 13 element 2 metre yagi, a fixed 70cm 13 element yagi, a Hidaka 3 element tri-band yagi and an open wire fed sort of horrizontal sort of full wave sort of delta shaped 40 metre loop.
Local work is via a Yaesu FT2700RH dual band and comet GP15 triband co-linear. New additionis an Alinco DR-06 for six metre FM.
In the work van I have an Icom IC706 2G and Opek whip, the Landcruiser has a Codan 8528 with 9350 auto tuner and a Yaesu FT1500M
Free Plug! In The Bayside area of VK3 and in need of some electrical work? See me at www.akmelectrical.net.au
Stop the Press.
KX3 now has the two metre module fitted and all works well, albeit some small grief during the install breaking a torroid on the rf boad that required a bit of moving to clear the sma connector. Replacement torroid provided at no cost by Elecrtaft!
