After a 3 month break from radio (busy establishing my own business after 20 years in the corporate world), I am now operating from home mostly on HF and CW with occassional bursts behind the microphone. I am planning some SOTA activites with my friends Brenton VK3CBV and Phil VK3YB come summer time. Seeds have been sown for another trip to Norfolk Island early in 2014 - watch this space.

Norfolk Island 3-13 May with the VK9NT Team. Visit http://vk9nt.odxg.org for more info. A great DXped - thanks to all stations who worked us - we thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

SOTA Norfolk Island VK9/NC-001 Mt Bates. Monitor Sotawatch for activity. 9 May 2013. Worked EA8TL with 2w on 14Mhz SSB - Elecraft KX3 and dipole from Mt Bates.

3D2/VK3QB- From 20th May 2012 until 26th May 2012 I operated 3D2/VK3QB from Malolo Lailai Islandin Fiji (IOTA OC-121). Please QSL direct via VK3QB with an envelope and US$2. Or send an email first followed up with AUD$2 via Paypal.

The photo is of me operating YJ0VK in Vanuatu in 2012. Visit http://yj0vk.odxg.org for more info.

About me:

I was first licenced in 1984 whist at high school, and have enjoyed many years working DX, contests, ragchewing and portable operation. With my work I've travelled to many countries and have been able to operate portable with my old FT-817. I returned to VK3 in 2006 after almost 4 years living in Sweden where I operated as SM0YKS.

My station comprises an IC7600, AL-811H amplifier and antenna is 40mtr ½ wavedipole at 14 mtrs high fed with open line. I have a KX3 - for portable and QRP work, and I am also a frustrated homebrewer - I hope that in 2013 I can finish a few projects that are on the go and have some fun with home built gear. CW and HF is my passion and probably where I spend most of my time, but I do enjoy a long ragchew on SSB as well. I keep an FT-101E for nostalgia - one of my first radios was the 101 and its fun to fire it up from time to time and recall my early days on the air.

After many many years I've finally pulled finger and am chasing my DXCC - so if you receive a QSL request, please reply! Especially for any QRP contacts; obtaining DXCC QRP from VK is rather a challenge. I am also a FISTS member (#9085) so please give me a call if you hear me!

I am a keen DXer and enjoy being on the busy end of a pileup. In April of 2012 I operated YJ0VK as a part of the DXpedition sponsored by ODXG Inc. For more info see http://www.odxg.org or http://yj0vk.odxg.org . I operated from Vanuatu in 2010 and 2011 and also from Lord Howe Island as VK9LA with ODXG in 2009. I am Team Leader for the Norfolk Island VK9NT operation in May 2013.

Please give me a call if you hear me on the bands - I hope we can have a ragchew or a simple 599 QSO. 73. Chris VK3QB

Bands:

160 - 10 with 40mtr doublet (fed with open wire) mostly CW and chasing DX. Depending on conditions and my mood I operate QRP with 0.5-10w through to about 400w with the AL-811H

2mtr and 70cm FM with vertical at 12mtrs
