THE DX RANCH

VK3SX Qth: Gunbower, Victoria .Located on close to the mighty Murray River close to the VK3/VK2 state borders ,some 200 klm north of Melbourne ,Australia .My Xyl ( Mandy) and I found this property in April 1996 which is located away from town set amongst the dairy farms and surrounded by large waterways and wetlands. This puts us on a small Island of some 120acres. It makes a perfect DX location with no TVI problems , no city static , and no annoying neighbours, just fields of green.Great fishing and wedgetail eagles above the giant River Red Gum eucalypts.

In summer temperatures can reach 38C for days and we have seen the thermometer under the verandah reach 48 Degrees Celcius, but these hot days are few in number. On average summer temperatures are 36 to 40C and the cool southerly weather fronts are welcome. Winter can bring temperatures around -0 C to 10 C, so most of the antenna work is during the cooler months.

My Station consists of the Following : TS 2000 Transceiver,Icom 7000, Amplifiers,AL811X Ameritron,Tokyo Hi Power Amp,4 ElementTA54XL Mosley Yagi @ 65' ,Half Square for 40m .These are located in the side field some 40m from the Shack. 1 KW Licence allocation by ACMA approved.

Awards DXCC VK , DXCC Arrl ,Top Honor Roll WIA ,Top Honor Roll Arrl , WAS Arrl. Currently need ,No DXCC entities as I have WORKED them ALL. Also operated from the Pacific in 1984, T30CJ, 3D2RR, 5W1EB.Still have Logs for this operation.

My Mobile station consists of : Icom 7000 Transceiver, 8 Band multitapped mobile whip made by Frankston & Mornington Peninsula Amateur Radio Club Vic,See vk3frc@Qsl.net this is mounted on the Bullbar of my 80 Series Toyota Landcruiser.
