First licenced in 2008, I was hooked early into IOTA activating and did my first DXpedition in 2010. In the past 5 years I have conducted one man IOTA operations in Australia to OC-172 Fitzroy Island, OC-171 Magnetic Island (twice), OC-138 Horn Island, OC-185 Bremer Island, OC-261 Flinders Island, OC-255 Red Island, OC-173 Bathurst Island and OC-220 St Peter Island. My lovely and understanding wife Michelle has allowed me to conduct these adventures all by myself on sometimes uninhabited islands in wild and remote regions of Australia. Many of these DXpeditions have had the risk of extreme heat/humidity and deadly Australian reptiles but that’s all part of the fun. I am happiest when running a big pile-up in these instances as it takes my mind off the nearby crocodiles and venomous snakes when operating from a tent!

My first DX highlight was joining Cezar VE3LYC, Johan PA3EXX and Bob KD1CT to bring to life the last remaining unactivated VK IOTA OC-294 as VK6ISL on Sandy Islet in 2014 - it was a great thrill to be able to now say all VK IOTA's have had at least one activation now. The second highlight was last year for S79C AF-119 which was an amazing opportunity to join Dave EI9FBB, Chris EA3NT, Col MM0NDX, Ron PA3EWP and Jacek SP5APW to activate another first time IOTA this time in Africa for another once in a lifetime opportunity. So it was with great excitement to be able to experience a third "once in a lifetime opportunity" to activate yet another all time new IOTA OC-286 as ZL9A.

QSL Policy for IOTA DXpeditions:

  • ADDRESS: Craig Edwards, PO Box 2160, Goolwa SA 5214, Australia
  • OQRS. Online QSL request via Club Log is available, simply visit the blog sites listed above.
  • DIRECT. If you send a self-addressed envelope with an IRC or US$4, I will send your QSL direct (VK operators just send a SASE). It requires US$4 now for IOTA DXpeditions due to airmail price increases in Australia. If you send an IRC, make sure it is stamped on the left hand side otherwise the IRC is worthless and your QSL will be sent via the bureau. If your IRC is not stamped on the left hand side, my post office will not accept it. If you send less than US$4 then your QSL will be sent via the bureau.
  • DONATIONS. Any donations will be used to fund future DXpeditions.
  • BUREAU. QSLs sent to me via the bureau will be returned via the bureau. But it could take years for your QSL to arrive.
  • LOTW. All callsign logs are uploaded to LOTW.
