Welcome to the shack of Chris - VK5CP My transmitter/receiver is located in Younghusband, South Australia. Younghusband is located on the Murray River near Mannum (which is shorter and easier to spell phonetically than Younghusband) about 100 kilometres from the capital city (Adelaide). I am using a Kenwood TS480SAT (100W) and a RemoteRig Mk2 interface made in Sweden.(www.remoterig.com).The TS480 has ability to separate the control head from the main unit. Remoterig consists of two hardware devices (which connect to each other via the internet)that are placed in between the remote head and the main unit. Remoterig carries both the radio commands and audio in both directions via the internet.
RemoteRig allows me to have the TS480 radio head at my home (or where I maybe provided I am in range of an internet provider)) and connects the the base unitvia the internet. I use www.dyndns.com to deal with non-static IP address issues. Whilst the remote internet connection is relatively slow (512/256 in practice) it appears to work well. Your audio comes to me via the slow 'back channel' if the WAN is not running at full speed your audio can be 'clipped' a bit. I am using a 4bit 16khz codec for my audio. My antenna is aSteppIR MkIII Vertical which automatically tracks the frequency of the TS480. Below is a photo of my tower andSteppIR antenna (which I have since swapped for a MonstIR which is too big for this tower!!) taken from the shack and a photo of the river in front of the shack (with the Murray Princess Paddle 'Steamer' in shot).
. I also have an IRLP node 6845 which operates when I am at the shack. I have been licensed since 1993. My previous calls were VK3NCP, VK3KCP and VK5JJJ.My wife Lena is also a ham - VK5FUNN. I am a member of the Amateur Radio Experimenters Group (www.areg.org.au) and a member and director of the Wireless Institute of Australia (www.wia.org.au), the governing amateur radio body in Australia and the oldest wireless society in the world. I am also a life member of the ARRL. (www.arrl.org) Feel free to QSL direct (1 IRC) or via the Buro or eQSL 73 de Chris VK5CP
